What’s cemented carbides？
Cemented carbide is a tool material that has all properties necessary for cutting tools, including hardness and strength. Cemented carbide is made by powdered tungsten carbide (WC), mixing cobalt (Co) powder in it as a binder, and sintering the mixture. It can be likened to concrete: small rocks (tungsten carbide) are surrounded by cement (cobalt).
 
Cemented carbide, when sintered, will have nearly twice as high gravity, and about half as much volume as before the sintering process. Sintered cemented carbide is ground by a diamond grinding wheel and can then be used as a cutting tool and other tools and spare parts.
 


Cemented Carbide is an extremely hard metal.
It is harder than iron or stainless steel, and is second only to diamond.
It is twice as heavy as iron, and about the same weight as gold.
Not only it is hard, but it also has superior strength and elasticity, minimal strength loss in high temperatures, is highly wear resistant, and is used in metal tools, molds and so on.
 
Cemented Carbide is just that: an alloy.
It is not a natural metal, but rather a man-made metal.
It is made up of tungsten carbide (WC) and cobalt (Co).
Tungsten carbide has a high melting point (2900℃), and will not melt like iron.
Because of this, we manufacture the alloy from powder by baking it at around 1300℃ to 1600℃ and allowing it to harden.
The material used to bind the powder is cobalt, nickel, etc.
 
Because of its hardness and strength, Cemented Carbide is used in a variety of metal cutting tools, such as drills, milling cutters, and lathes.
It is also used for a variety of metal molds, including wire drawing and cold heading, which was widely used in the wire drawing industry for metal wire, tube, bar etc.
It is also used to make tools used to break up bedrock during shield tunneling and to cut the surface of asphalt on roads.

Because of its superior characteristics, Cemented Carbide is used in a variety of fields, including construction, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure improvements, and other public works.
